Welcoming Wren

Wren is here! Don't you just love baby yawns.
Chris and Robert are always a ton of fun to photograph. For example, Wren isn't really into the session yet and is not happy. So they decide if everyone crys too Wren will look and feel right at home. Cora can't help but let a smile sneak out at her parent's mock sobs. Here Miss Cora is playing sleepy to match her little sister.

Cora is always a gem - you might remember her second birthday album. She is now 4 and the perfect big sis.

Wren's turn with mom.
Wren enjoys the calm quiet of mom and dad's room to the lights and background that we brought with us so we made the most of her happiness. A cozy cuddle.
I had to include this! When one of the family's tree took a turn for the worst, Robert's creative flair came out for all to see. How ideal this is to celebrate their newest addition to the family - no plastic storks for this group! And of course, we love the reference too.

Chris was actually one of the masterminds behind persuading us that Carpe Vita was the perfect name for our business. Scott (dad in previous entry welcoming Calum) was another contributing mastermind - perfect that they should both be blessed with healthy new babies within weeks of one another.
As we understand, eventually this work of art and love will find a new home in the backyard. Some of the neighbors just don't seem to get it.

Houston Session

Friday, Kim flew to Houston to photograph the newest addition to the Gensch family - Calum. We have been photographing the Gensches since they were first expecting Liam who is now two.

Last year, they moved the family to Houston for career opportunities and we got to photograph them when they were in town visiting last fall. At that point, Liam pretty much sat and crawled around and had a grand time with the fall leaves. So to get to photograph Liam now as a big brother and on the move was great fun.

We love showing the relationship of size to help us remember when. One day this air conditioning grate will come up to Liam's knees...

Here, Liam is having fun looking for Max the cat at their front window - thanks to Max for all his help.

Scott Gensch coined the tag "Life is Grand" for Carpe Vita Photography and it is so totally true as is evident by their many blessings.
In a quiet moment, Liam was still for a few moments and we were able to document some of cuddling with his dad. They grow up sooooo fast, so we have to slow down time whenever we can.

What a patient and loving cat Max is. This photo shows off Liam's curls soon to be trimmed off.
Liam sees that the family dogs have made their way into the living room and wants to join in on the fun.
The Gensches are planning a trip back to Dallas, this fall and we look forward to photographing them again.

Brook Hollow Golf Club is Blooming

Spring is here when Brook Hollow Golf Club has it's annual President's Reception to honor their board's new president and to show off to their members how this fabulous gem can throw a top notch party. They were also showing off their new club logo - don't you think it will look hip on golf shirts?Kim Cooley of Carpe Vita Photography had the distinct pleasure again this year to photograph the party. Membership is coveted and exclusive but if you know a member and they will vouch for you, this is a gorgeous location for any party or wedding celebration, as you will see. And the staff will treat you like royalty. Junior with Garden Gate Floral Design was the visionary and once again he amazed us (just four days after he had amazed us at the Zimmer-Sewell reception. He brought Spring inside and made it better - I'm sure God and Mother Nature were both very proud.

Junior utilized BBJ Linens - how can you not love this gorgeous pattern and the use of orange to compliment the mossy greens?

This above photo shows off Absolute Lighting's contribution - we love how they lit the chandelier too.
If you haven't heard about the wonders the Brook Hollow's creative kitchen artistes can do with ice, here's a little taste. Every year they amaze us.

And finally the food - talk about mouth-watering! Always a favorite, that we heard several of the past presidents raving about and making plans to indulge in, are the lambchops with their famous mint jelly.
Lobster Macaroni and Cheese - yummmmmmmmmmm.

And then there was the dessert table and I haven't mentioned the incredible acoustics provided by Carlos Guedes and his creative trio!

Spring has Sprung in Colleyville

Zimmer-Sewell Reception

BBJ Linens, Garden Gate Floral Design, Le Gateau and the Renaissance Worthington all assisted Mary-Francis Hurt and her mastermind staff of DFW Events to create any girls dream come true Saturday night.

Steve and Kim Cooley of Carpe Vita Photography were retained by BBJ to document all their uses of their beautiful linens. As you will see in the following photos, no one should ever want to use a standard issued white/creme table cloth again and BBJ offers top-notch cloths and incredibly variety.

With an expected 700 plus guests, five different areas with five different linen/floral/food themes all from a complimentary color pallet were arranged to channel the guests and bridal party thru a luxurious experience sure to be remembered by all. And FYI, this was one of three wedding receptions the Renaissance Worthington was hosting that evening.

As guests arrived to white-gloved valet attendants, they were ushered up the escalators through this stunning fragrant canopy which set the scene for what was to come. As we were not involved with the wedding portion of the celebration, we can only imagine the grandeur of the church florals and decor.
At the top of the esclators, guests found themselves in an inviting cocktail area which is actually a bridge overlooking an active downtown Fort Worth on St. Patrick's Day.

Next stop was two common areas that balanced the entrance to the foyer of the Grand Ballroom. With seating and lite hors d'oeuvres, dreamy trees of iron laden with candles and orchids floating aloft (Junior from Garden Gate, please forgive me for not knowing the names of all the beautiful flowers you used).

Within these common areas, guests could find another set of bars to whet their whistles located in the Bur Oaks and Post Oaks rooms.
Bistro coversation tables lit by candlelight led the way to the formal entrance of the Grand Ballroom Foyer.
The domed entrance to the foyer was luminated to show stars over head - definitely a location for a romantic stolen kiss or two by the just married couple or any of their guests inspired by the passion of the evening.
Guests were lured into the foyer by a pianist and enticed by oysters on the half shell and the sushi bar decorated with more florals, ice sculptures and the moon and stars over head.

Entering The Grand Ballroom was a breathtaking treat to all of the senses: sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. Here's a peek - we'll save the best for last because we can...

A wall of candles was created along with a custom bandstand to make a mesmerizing backdrop for an evening of dancing, partying and celebration.

But nothing could possibly compete with the centerpiece - a grand gazebo showcasing the bride's wedding cake. This creation of confection (Magnolia Infused) was housed in a work of art and love that one could not take their eyes away.

Not to overshadowed, the groom's cake was telling and complimented the garden/outdoor theme.

We were out of there before most of the guests arrived but it would have been fun to be a fly on the wall to watch the reactions and appreciation of all the work the creative forces behind this stunning event contributed. Kudos to all involved - you should be very proud.

Colleyville Women's Club's March Meeting

Kim Cooley from Carpe Vita Photography was invited to photograph the March Colleyville Women's Club meeting which was themed Breakfast at Tiffany's (hence the yummy petit fours shaped like little Tiffany boxes). The meeting was held at the Colleyville Center and was CWC's chance to honor local Colleyville fashion sources and get everyone excited about the Lexus CWC's Stetsons to Stilettos Fashion Show fundraiser being held at the Hilton Anatole Dallas April 13th.

Here's a slideshow with highlights - maybe you will see some faces you know. Fashion sources included Sue Bearrie Fine Linen and Fashion Boutique, Opaj, Articles A-Z, Girli Girl, Ashlins from Grapevine, and Chelsea Lane children's clothing. Caitlin and Colton

Steve and Kim Cooley of Carpe Vita Photography had the pleasure of photographing Caitlin and Colton wedding in December at one of our favorite venues - Perkins Chapel at SMU.
Their reception was held at the new Mediterranean Villa in Arlington, Texas.In pre-designing the wedding album for Caitlin and Colton, we went a little overboard (10 pages) on the first draft (click here to see a slideshow of Draft 1). So before releasing to the couple to see, we went back and slimed down a bit to a design with fewer photos that have a bit more impact. Click here to see a slideshow of the Draft 2. Party @ The Apartment

Steve and I attended a little gathering last Thursday at Todd Event's The Apartment showcasing George Catering and Society Bakery. The touch of warm weather added to the sizzle in the atmosphere with a promise that summer will be here soon.

The Apartment is definitely the quint-essential backdrop for any get together where you want to make a fashion statement. Click here to see a slideshow this hot venue in action. DJ Sista Whitenoise spun the night away providing the perfect background beat.

Of course, the food had to be awesome since it was courtesy of George Catering - click here to see a slideshow that will make your mouth water and have you calling Brent to plan your next party menu.

To cap off the night, a delicious designer cupcake or two that Society Bakery must add a mystery ingredient (slice of heaven) to. I actually scarfed mine the next morning for a decadent start to Friday and the weekend. Hotel ZaZa Wedding

Here's a slideshow of the small album we did for the Hotel ZaZa catering staff - showing off the wonderful location and yummies provided for guests to nosh on. You'll see some of the Bella Flora of Dallas creations showcased in the previous posting highlighted in the album.

One unique aspect that this album does not show off is the full size bed that sat close to the entrance of the Uptown Ballroom. Definitely a detail loved by many of the guests so we made sure to offer a "Photo Bed Booth" setup so guest could click off a few photos of them enjoying the surroundings for their hosting couple. Photo Booths can be a fun addition to any party, contact us (email in the nav) for info about having one at your next shindig. We would share some of the photos here but we don't have permission from all involved but they are pretty funny!

Tommy Lee, icon and currently drummer for the band Rock Star Supernova, who was staying at ZaZa that night for their Feb 11th concert at Nokia was heard to hear comment from a reliable source (the bride's mom), "That's a party I would like to attend" when he saw the bed in the room on his way out of DragonFly. Here's a photo of Tommy Lee tickling the ivories on the piano just outside of the Hotel ZaZa's Uptown Ballroom before the bride and groom made their entrance.

Bella Flora of Dallas

February 10th we photographed Gretchen and James Darby's Dallas Wedding Reception at Hotel ZaZa. Bella Flora of Dallas provided the glorious taste of tropics to remind guests of the couple's January nupitals in Hawaii. Here are photos from an 5x7 display album we created for their studio. Attention to Detail

Every creative person knows - God is in the details and details make all of the difference. The photos of the Concept tables from the previous posts of The Special Event 2007 Wedding Luncheon were all about the big picture to show off how grand everything was. Below are some details that give a much better idea of how creative these companies are and can be.

You can really see the Hollywood influence of set design - something that plays up to my love of theatrics and all things beautiful. Which I believe is distinctive in the Carpe Vita Photography approach to event and wedding photography. We appreciate detail - we love detail - we crave detail and we make sure the details are documented because we recognize that every little detail was probably a decision that could have be labored over or made on a whim but it truly tells the story.

I'll be a little honest, the first concept I encountered when I walked into the ballroom was the TFS Studio design of what I am calling A Taste of Marie Antoinette in honor of the recent Sophia Coppola/Kirsten Dunst film that I have yet to find the time to see. But what I hear about the era and the film is the celebration of grandiose and these incredible details demonstrate this completely. There was so much to see at the this table scape that I spent more time here than some of the other tables.

Pyramids of Champagne glasses dripping with jewels...
Confections nestled in a precious pump...
Filtered Smokes with an antique match box...
Butts of used cigarettes stained with the royal's lip color mingled with jewels probably cast aside as the evening wore on and the bubbly flowed...

The Special Event 2007 - Wedding Luncheon

This year's sold-out Wedding Luncheon at The Special Event was held at The Millennium Biltmore Hotel. Definitely a venue that would make any bride feel like a celebrity starting with being greeted by a dozen violinists to the white gloved waiters passing the champagne freely. Dramatic lighting filled the entrance of the Tiffany Ballroom and showcased unique cake designs by Layers Cake Design Studio (see design below), Cake Crumbs, The Cake Studio and Fantasy Frostings.

In the actual Tiffany Ballroom, there were eight concept tables and two concept chuppahs designed to leave spectators in awe. The two tables were designed by Eventful overseen by Linda Pittelli, who was also one of the featured speakers for the lunch.

Keynote Speakers - Passing Zone

Passing Zone Humor Guys/Jugglers Extraordinare Jon Wee and Owen Morse brought their message of team building in an innovative highly creative manner. That's the Search Foundation President risking his life driving a point home. It is a difficult to tell here but those plates and that three legged thing on his head that is also on fire are all also spinning! Yes, those are chainsaws and costuming borrowed from Swan Lake.

The Special Event 2007 Opening Ceremony

Ignite Your Imaginaion is the theme of The Special Event 2007 being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center this week and event planners working to impress event planners attending from around the world made sure the opening ceremonies screamed that this would be one hot ticket! Each event planner found a fun glow globe toy in each of their seats which just complimented the electric atmosphere.

Fire was everywhere!
The Special Event 2007 Ambassadors are Andrea Michaels, President of Extraordinary Events and John Daly of John Daly, Inc. International . And as you can see Special Event Group Show Director Sharon Morabito is as proud as a peacock for how well everything started out.

Sunrise in Los Angeles

Ahhhh, time zone changes... On a normal day, Kim awakes pretty early (without the assistance of an alarm clock) to get caught up. Fast forward to Los Angeles to participate in The Special Event 2007, same thing happens but instead of it being 5ish - it is 3ish. Luckily Steve, the non-early bird stayed in Dallas to hold down the fort.

So what is a girl photographer to do? Take photos of the view, but of course! The lovely white glowing building above and below was like my very own night light - a beacon in the night. As you can see, not much is happening at 4am but I really enjoyed taking photos of the shadows created on the ceiling... I know get a life, but this could the beginning nugget for a fine art show.
Here's the sun coming up a little later - 6:20am. I'll be sharing photos taken from the show. It is amazing to see what all event people can do and how out of the box everyone is. Incredibly inspirational, which is why we attend!

Thanks for Making 2006 so Rewarding

2006 is just barely over but before we totally let it go, we wanted to thank everything one we worked with and encountered this last year for making it even more memorable. Every year, we get to meet more wonderful people and make lasting friendships - definitely one of the best perks of being photographers! So as you can imagine, we are anxious to see what 2007 brings us as we continue to develop our existing relationships.

We are kind of known for our fun holiday cards - the ones we send out to our friends and Carpe Vita family. This year, December seemed a little more crazy than ever and before we knew it, Santa was on his way. So instead, we threw together a card (we hope for it to mail later this week) honoring the terrific people we met and got to work with in 2006.

The image above is a sneak peek and what you see below are some of the outtakes from the year... We learned, that it might actually be easier to come up with special holiday card photo than try to squeeze everything into a traditional 5x7 card side. Of course, as soon as we had it off to the press, we realized we overlooked some very important occasions, like our Lincoln Properties friends we photograph each year, the ConocoPhilips group Steve photographed at their annual meeting, the Villalobos wedding and you'll see nothing of the many Living Magazine contributions we made in 2006. Ah but what a great year it was!

2006 ended with a blast with Steve and Kim photographing the groovy Hotel ZaZa 007 themed New Year's Eve Party. Definitely a night of beautiful people partying the year away and celebrating the arrival of 2007 in a stunning venue. Where else can you dine at the fabulous Dragon Fly, walk on water at the Urban Oasis and cuddle with a few friends on luxe linens feet away from the thriving dance floor? As 2006 is winding down, we have been busy churning out album designs for our couples who got married recently. Take a look and enjoy the recapping of these terrific celebrations. Every wedding is special and as you will see each album is different than the last because our albums are designed with the personalities of the couple in mind. Please feel free to share your feedback.
Deanna and Shane were married in April at Perkins and had their reception at the Women's Museum (click the couples names to be linked to their album).

Erin and John were married in June at Christ the King Catholic Church and toasted their nuptials at the Northwood Club.

Brighid and Christopher are currently living in Boston but married in Texas to give their out of town family and friends a true taste of Brighid's background. They married at St. Francis in Grapevine and watched the sunset at Robson Ranch.

This photo of Tim and Kelcey's last dance at their wedding reception shows the fairytale they created and made a reality for all invited to enjoy it with them. The Yellow Rose Ballroom of the Gaylord Texan was the ideal setting for this celebration that brought family and friends from Houston, Ohio and Montana (including some real cowboys too). Checkout this link to a slideshow from Thursday night's D Magazine's Best of Big D 2006 Platinum Party held at Gilleys Dallas. The bands included in these photos are The Wonders, A Hard Night's Day and Top - all represented by our friends at Absolute Entertainment. The amazing entertainment - from the guys on stilts to the incredible acrobats and other living art - were courtesy of Bravo! Entertainment . Cory, from Cocktails and Caviar, outdid himself transforming Gilleys and of course the food from all the sponsors was delectable.

The proceeds from the night's event benefitted Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children . Some of the faces you'll see include Rebecca Hackl of Event Studio Dallas/Ft. Worth visting with wedding proposal guru Mike Bloomberg of An Exclusive Engagement, Dallas Morning New's Michelle Jackson (expecting a special delivery soon) with her husband and marketing master Doug Jackson. There is some of the Southwest Airlines Spirit magazine staff showing support of past publisher Susan Hicks and Steve and Kim Cooley of Carpe Vita Photography.

On A Wild Ride

Thursday, June 15th 2006 was a day Kristin won't soon forget. Bill woke her with a surprise call and the notes began. Leading her from one fun activity to another, taking into account places and things she loves to do, Bill planned everything down the moment. At this point they are en route from dinner out at Del Frisco's in Dallas to a destination unknown to Kristin. They ended up at The Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine where Bill whisked her around to the many sites and took her breath away by proposing to her on bended knee.

Kim Cooley of Carpe Vita Photography was there to document the entire day and all of the emotions involved. Bill definitely deserves the Carpe Vita Award for the day! Congratulations to Kristin and Bill. We look forward to documenting your wedding preparations, celebration and becoming your photographers for life!

Cindi's Modelling Portfolio

What a lovely lady with great diversity! We did Cindi's portfolio session for modelling early Memorial Day to avoid the heat but she was keeping things sizzling hot! She definitely has a future in front of her and we enjoyed getting to watch her work.

As luck would have it, while we were photographing in the Deep Ellum area, we encountered a news team from WB News at Nine. They taped Kim photographing Cindi so she had her first little TV spot.

Key West? Nope - Deep in the heart of Texas! We've been very busy with our high school seniors - creating one of a kind images that say more about the individual, their style and how they want to be perceived.

This session was to photograph images for the girl's senior pages that will be seen this fall in their high school football programs. The boys will love the photos we took - definitely not your everyday school photography!

Day In The Life Coverage

Behind the Scenes
Cora's celebration was supposed to be on the Saturday before Easter but the weather people warned that rain showers would start on that Saturday. After a few tense moments, Cora's mom decided to move the party to Friday (being the holiday Good Friday, many of the guests were easily able to make the change). We were already booked that Friday morning for an engagement session so you might see a little break in the coverage where Kim ran from north of 635 to the Dallas Arboretum for that session. By the end of the party, I was ready to lay down and take a nap with Cora!

Back in January, we had the great pleasure to photograph the National Associations Catering Executive Leadership Conference held in Dallas at the Adolphus Hotel. We learned first hand that catering execs do it better and boy, do they know how to party.

The above photo is of the Dallas NACE Chapter, who were responsible for producing and coordinating an incredible event. They showed just a taste of the style Dallas NACE members are capable of.

Happy Valentine's Day 2006!
This is the first entry for our blog. As photographers, many clients and people we have met have said "I can't imagine all the things you have seen" and we have responded, "we could write a book". But if you don't start, it will never get done and even our memory begins to fade. So this is for ourselves as well as clients (who always seem to turn into friends) and our loved ones.

I'm thinking of Marc Leediker and Rhonda Andrus who will be getting married this coming Saturday. Marc proposed to Rhonda a year ago today in San Francisco - what a great place to spend Valentines! As Marc and Rhonda shared with us when we first met them, "the Forces of the Universe were involved because Rhonda was not coming back to Dallas until she got a verbal"...

Marc followed thru and Saturday February the 18th, Marc and Rhonda will be married at Perkins Chapel on the SMU campus. Check back Sunday for a few photos showing their celebration.

You'll need to search for the Leediker-Andrus Wedding and indicate that you want to be contacted with the photos are made available. Then when Marc and Rhonda return from their honeymoon (in romantic San Francisco) and release the photos, a email will be sent to you for you to return and enjoy their event all over again.

We tried to get them to consider an engagement session including both bass fishing and a jaunt on the motorcycle but their schedules were too packed in the last few weeks to fit it in. But maybe one day soon, when things are a little prettier again.
